Social media is it meaningful

Is your social media having an impact on the business problem you are trying to solve?

Before you can make social media meaningful to your business you first need understand how it will benefit your business.

We believe that there are two main focuses, one being using social media to represent your brand and tell your story, helping customers keep up to date with your business and being there for customer service and feedback purposes. The second being driving you more enquiries weather this be paid ads or organic.

5 Social Media Business Benefits

Social media

Increase brand awareness

  • 1 in 5 minutes spent online is spent on Facebook. More and more people are using social media as a search engine, building trust and completing market research before they even land on your website. A friendly looking face on a business Instagram account or interacting with a local business on Twitter could be the difference.

 Increase in search ranking

  • Social media counts for 10% of the SEO ranking factor, so not only does social media help you direct people to your website, but the more social media shares and interactions you receive, the higher you will appear on google. Always make sure your website is linked to your social accounts. When you post on social media vary your content links back to different pages of your website making the user experience more relevant and reducing your bounce rate. Google will love you for this!

Geo-targeting paid advertising

  • A cost effective way to advertise your business out to a specific audience based on their location. So if you know your ideal customer is up to 10 miles radius, you can directly target them. Social networks like Facebook and Twitter have tools that allow you to communicate the right kind of content to your audience.

Build relationships, become famous

  •  As social culture in the workplace expands, every employee becomes an extension of your brand. Are you looking for opportunities and using different methods to interact and build relationships? Follow, Comment, Like, RT, Share, join groups, helping support prospective customers and businesses.

 24/7 always open

  • 24/7 always open, are you at hand on a Sunday evening when a customer is enquiring about your product or service. Customers are now using social media as a method of contact and expect an instant response. Nailing this, sets you apart from the competition, if you don’t pick this enquiry up someone else will.

Facebook Algorthym whats all the noise about?

Facebook has gone back to its roots and deprioritised business and media content in the newsfeed. Mark Zuckerberg announced a major overhaul of Facebooks news feed algorithm, prioritising meaningful social interactions over relevant content having pledged to make sure that time spent of Facebook is time well spent.

He said, “Recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg

What types of Page posts will show higher in News Feed? Its all about the personal approach between friends and family, whether that’s a post seeking advice, a friend asking for recommendations for a trip, or a news article or video prompting lots of discussion or an exciting event. What can we do to get around the changes?

The key organic changes in strategy will be around video, groups, events, services, customer service, reviews. Post timely information that makes sense for your storage business, making sure your content is quality over quantity. Don’t just post offers and deals, create stories about your team and customers. Always vary your posts in updates, i.e. images, links, videos, shares, questions etc. Be creative, stay true to your brand and create a post that is instantly recognisable to your customers.

The second option is a paid ads strategy, using geotargeting get your business infront of the customers your looking for.

Ephemeral Content

The word "ephemeral" describes something that only lasts for a short period of time. Instagram, and Facebook stories have led to the popularity of ephemeral content. Most ephemeral content is shared for up to 24 hours and then disappears forever.  Showcase your solutions to customers in a brand new way, educate your followers.Having stories that appear at the top of your follower’s feed helps keep your brand the top of their minds, treat it as a daily news flash. Team Birthdays, New customers (ask first), anything involving babies and dogs and doughnuts is always a hit!

Video Video Video!

In 2017 90% of all content shared by users on social media is video. The biggest challenge is how you can capture your audience's attention in the first 3 seconds. At Social Media Week London Facebooks Creative Strategist, Kat Hahn quoted 'Not doing short video is not an option'. Brands who are not yet using video as part of their social media strategy need to start.
